Alpine course - Beginners

Progressing towards become an independent climber in the high mountains!

HOW DIFFICULT WILL THE TRIP BE?

No previous experience required however to maximise this experience it would beneficial to have prepared by spending some in a climbing wall

WHAT LEVEL OF PHYSICAL FITNESS DO I NEED?

To participate you should have the fitness to be active (walking uphill) for 5 to 7 hours ( with breaks)

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON EACH DAY?

This is a example itinerary, changes can occur due to weather skill level of group and location

Evening before course: Meet and check gear and any other concerns 

Day 1:  Easy outdoor rock climbing venue to practice rope skills required for the week. Afternoon walk into the first hut.

Day 2: Glacial skill training on a glacier, sleeping in the same hut. 

Day 3: First easy ascent. In the afternoon a planning activity for the following day 

Day 4: Second ascent  planned by the group. Sleep in the valley 

Day 5: Take a lift ( if in Chamonix) to climb a more advanced route, possible a rock ridge, sleep in a hut

Day 6: Optional day either further skills training or another more advanced route.

WHAT DOES THIS PRICE INCLUDE?

Guiding fee is calculated a 350 per day ( this split between the group maximum number of participates in5)
This price includes:
guiding fees every day
The ropes used during the course

This fee does not include:
Hut or hotel fees for the guests and the guide which will be paid by the guest
Lunch dinner water
Other material required such as harnesses, clothing.

WHat will i learn 

This is the perfect course for aspiring alpinist who are keen to learn the basic skills associated with attempting easy summits. You will learn;

  • Crampon technics to safely cross glaciers or mount easy slopes
  • Crevasse rescue, essential for glacial travel
  • Self arrest on a snow slope
  • Rope techniques for various terrain e.g. rocky ridges, glacial travel 
  • Navigation using a map
  • Weather assessments 
  • Planning and decision making
  • Practice moving through typical alpine terrains such as boulder fields, scree, snow slopes

The practice will take place in a agreed location previous courses have been run in The Ecrins, Chamonix, Austria. 
There will be a mixture of camping and huts and a plan will be developed to maximise the days spent in the mountains
